AHRA Fellow Designation

About FAHRA

The AHRA Fellow (FAHRA) designation is a prestigious honor that recognizes outstanding contributions by AHRA members to both the healthcare imaging industry and AHRA. This designation is awarded to members who demonstrate exceptional commitment, and expertise, going above and beyond in service to their profession and the association. 

Fellow designation is presented at the AHRA Annual Meeting and Fellows receive the privilege of adding the initials FAHRA after their names.

How to Qualify for FAHRA

To qualify for FAHRA status, members must accumulate points through a variety of professional activities and achievements, as outlined in an evaluation point scale. These points are awarded based on criteria such as years of AHRA membership, participation in educational programs, volunteer leadership roles, published research, and other contributions that advance the field of healthcare imaging and the mission of AHRA. Only members who meet the minimum point threshold are eligible to apply. 

The application process for FAHRA status requires a recommendation from a current AHRA Fellow, who acts as a sponsor and vouches for the candidate’s qualifications and impact. After a rigorous review of the application, successful candidates are awarded the FAHRA designation at the AHRA Annual Meeting, where they are formally recognized for their accomplishments. Fellows are entitled to use the FAHRA initials after their names, signifying their high level of professional achievement and dedication to excellence in healthcare imaging management. This designation not only enhances the Fellow’s professional reputation but also serves as an inspiration and standard of excellence for other AHRA members. 
Applications MUST include: 
 
  • Completed, signed application form 
  • Sponsor’s signature from a current AHRA Fellow 
  • Supporting documentation 
    • Specific types of documentation will vary; might include copies of diplomas, CE letters, title pages of articles or books, etc. 
  • Resume or curriculum vitae 
    • Log-on to www.ahra.org (member home/view activities) to view a record of member activities.
  • Applications are reviewed by the Member Recognition Committee and require the sponsorship of a current AHRA Fellow.  All applicants will be notified of the Committee’s decision, and those members who qualify for Fellow status will be recognized at the Annual Meeting. 

  • Completed accomplishments (each credited term of service must have been completed at the time of application) For a multi-year term, each year of service must be completed before points are applied, but the multi-year term need not be completed 
    • E.g. elected offices, committee appointments, publications, etc.  
  • There are 4 major categories.  
    • Category I: AHRA Contributions 
      • AHRA Long-term Contributions 
      • AHRA Short-term Contributions 
      • AHRA Membership  
    • Category II: Education 
      • National Certification 
      • Advanced Degrees 
      • CEU Participation 
    • Category III: Professional Experience 
      • Non-management 
      • Management 
    • Category IV: Professional Contributions  
      • Article Publications 
      • Presenter 
      • Book Author 
      • Other outstanding AHRA Achievements and AHRA Awards 
  • Long-term Contributions: AHRA President, President-elect, Past-president, Board of Directors, Annual Meeting Design Team Chair, Annual Meeting Design Team Member, RACC Chair, RACC Commissioner, AHRA Education Foundation Chair, AHRA Education Foundation Director, Spring Conference Design Team Chair, Spring Conference Design Team Member, Fall Conference Design Team Chair, Fall Conference Design Team Member, appointment of chairperson, leader, or editor of a committee, team, task force, work group, board team etc. (excluding conference design teams) for a full term of 1 month or more.                                                                                              
  • Short-term Contributions: Each appointment of chairperson, leader, or editor of a committee, team, task force, work group, board team etc. (excluding conference design teams) for a full term of 1 month or less.                         
  • Point system: the applicant identifies the year(s) of achievement for each item and multiplies that number by the point value.

  • Application must meet category and application minimum point requirements. (Minimum 120 points or maximum 155 points required to be eligible for Fellow status)
  • Sponsorship: Members must find a sponsor who already is an AHRA Fellow. This sponsorship is an essential step in the application process, providing candidates with a mentor who can guide them through the requirements and offer insights into achieving a Fellow status. Members can use the Mentoring or Success program or the Member Directory located here.
  • Download volunteer history: Log-on to https://account.ahra.org/ and navigate to the "Your Account" tab at the top and click on “My Volunteer History”. Once the volunteer history loads, click "Export History to Excel" to download.
