Are You Overpaying for CT Scanner Options You Don't Need?
Wednesday, November 4, 2020 at 2:00 PM - 3:00 PM EDT
Timothy P. Szczykutowicz, Ph.D., DABR
Associate Professor, Departments of Radiology, Medical Physics and Biomedical Engineering
University of Wisconsin-Madison
Usage data offers medical imaging administrators a unique opportunity to glean practical insight on how to optimize equipment purchases for their department. Dr. Szczykutowicz will go over why some indications require special CT scanner options. These are options typically only offered on certain high-end scanner models, or available through add-on purchases through most major capital equipment vendors. For example, cardiac gating is needed for many indications but is not a standard option on all CT scanners. This webinar will look at need versus use for a variety of indications to potentially help you improve the overall return on investment for your department. Scanner options like perfusion modes, bariatric tables/tubes, MAR reconstruction, iterative denoising, CT fluoroscopy and more are linked to specific clinical indications that benefit or require them. Using data from his own site and the Imalogix Research Institute, Dr. Szczykutowicz will show how to leverage usage data from your billing, dose monitoring, Electronic Medical Record (EMR), and Radiology Information System (RIS) resources to address the central theme of the webinar: How many scanners do I need with a specialized option set for my patient volume? In this webinar you will learn to:
• Understand why certain clinical indications benefit from or require certain CT scanner options.
• Receive tips for spreading CT scanner options between sites/scanners to have a more robust scheduling template.
• Discover how to use data to guide purchasing decisions on CT scanner technology.
